Centenary Match for Charity

As part of our centenary celebrations, West Kirby School and College held a charity football
match raising £1100 for our nominated International charity, Save the Children. The event
with Claremount Specialist Sports College, was organised by Mr Evans and Mr Davey.

The game was played by staff teams, together with guest legends including Joe Murphy of
Tranmere Rovers. Pupils, families and staff of both schools cheered the teams on and the
atmosphere was one of real community spirit. After a spirited match, with a 6-0 win to
Claremount, a cup was presented to the winners by Mr Anthony Shone, President of West
Kirby Educational Trust.

The cheque for £1100 was presented to Lesley Crombie, Save the Children UK local
representative. She commented, “This is an amazing amount of money! This donation will
contribute to our Emergency Fund, which is used to support disasters in this country and
abroad, particularly Ukraine, Gaze, Somalia, Yemen and the UK. Thank you so much.”

Miss Thomas, Headteacher & CEO, said “It was a real family event and an enjoyable
evening. The end result was that £1100 was raised for Save The Children. It was amazing.”

Joe Murphy, current Tranmere goalkeeper, told us, “It was an honour and a pleasure to be
asked to be involved in such a good cause. Great work from all the teachers and fundraisers
for taking part".

A special thank you to Tranmere Rovers FC for their warm hospitality and excellent
organisation, which made the event such a success.
