Meet The Pastoral Care

Miss Killey leads our Pastoral Care Team - Mr Evans, Mr Brown, Mr Brothwood, Miss Kirkham, Miss Killey and Miss Roberts.

What is Pastoral Care?

Broadly, it is to ensure the physical and emotional welfare of your child; our school will undertake a series of initiatives to safeguard your child and to promote your child’s wellbeing, but it does not end there…

At West Kirby School and College, our Pastoral Care Team support our pupil’s physical, social and emotional welfare, building positive relationships that allow us to identify and support behaviours which impact on a pupils ability to access learning. In turn, supporting the pupils to be able to self-regulate in the difficult situations life can present.

Our team are adept at building relationships with young people, building on existing interests to form positive relationships that allow us to encourage and develop new and existing skills. As a team we create a calm and caring environment where young people are encouraged and supported to undertake challenges within both academic and social situations.

PCT say "We are proud to be part of a team providing successful Pastoral Care across the school; this means that your child is safe, happy, involved and able to perform to their potential. That they are integrating well with other pupils, developing resilience, physical and emotional well- being and that any issues are spotted and extra support can be put into place during these times. We are proud to play our part in the success stories the school is able to reflect upon and recognise that as a team ‘united we are stronger’"

Mr Brown is our Anti-Bullying Lead and staff link with Anti-Bullying Pupil Ambassador.

We promote an Attachment and Trauma Sensitive approach. We aim to empower and help our young people in developing emotional regulation, well-being and resilience through specific programmes and interventions. We are proud to hold Attachment and Trauma Sensitive Schools Award Gold level. Read more here

Within the PCT, staff are specialists in Positive Behaviour Support, Diffusion and De-escalation and Risk Assessments. Led by Miss Roberts, they work with the education staff and provide valuable support for the wellbeing and safety our pupils; also providing specialist regular internal staff training staff across the school.

Our teams pride themselves on the success of the interventions undertaken, helping the pupils to enjoy, develop and be successful during their time spent at West Kirby School and College.

Our Pupil Referral system to our weekly Clinical Services panel can support pupils who staff identify as requiring additional support.
