International Schools Award - Foundation Level

West Kirby School and College are proud recipients of the Foundation level International Schools Award. The award was led by Mrs Brown.

The award focuses on schools starting their international journey by introducing the concept of internationalism through class activities and forming an international partnership with another school.

According to the report, “This is a strong application for the Foundation level of the International School Award from West Kirby. I am pleased to say it is approved”.

West Kirby School and College’s international work includes creating a partnership link with  Geschwister-Scholl-Schule Heidelberg, a school in Germany, and also our activity submission “Eurovision 2024”. In the named activity, classes were allocated a country to learn about through hands-on interactive activities, such as learning basic phrases and preparing a food dish, culminating in a talent show which was greatly enjoyed by pupils.. 

Key points from the report include:

• The ‘Motivation’ and ‘Summary’ sections of your application are robust.

• A redesign of the Key Stage 3 languages curriculum made room for cultural events such as ‘The European Day of Languages’ which promote language learning and celebrate linguistic and cultural diversity.

• Your “Eurovision 2024” submission was a motivating, cross-curricular and well-written international activity.

• Aims and outcomes for your activity are very good.

• It is great to see that you now have a partner school in Germany.

The success and positive comments from our report have given us headway to make a well-informed start on our Intermediate Level award application, where we must submit 3 international activities, one of which involves a collaboration with our partnership school.
